Night and Day
My morning routine is FIRE. My nighttime routine? Not so much.
For the last few months, I’ve started popping awake at 3 AM. My friend Nancy calls 3 AM the God hour. I guess God has plans for me because trying to get back to sleep is hopeless. At 3 AM, ye olde me of yesteryear wouldn’t have even thought of going to bed yet, while now it’s when I greet the morn.
Honestly, it’s my favorite time of day. I love the pitch-black sky with my electric moon orb and the real moon all lit up. Sometimes, I sit on the side porch with my coffee and candles. Meditations, affirmations, writing, and special books keep me company. As the sun starts to peek, I dress, take my meds, and load the dogs into the car for a walk through the woods. When I get back I drink a green smoothie and wave my magic wand around in the air like I am the Queen of the World.
My morning routine is FIRE. My nighttime routine? Not so much.
By 5 pm I feel like I’m going to die. I’m hungover and haggard. I feel like a frat boy after a rager. The most I can manage is lying on the couch eating something carby while crumbs fall into my cleavage. I’m lucky if I get out of my day clothes and into my night clothes before falling into bed. Then I pass out like a drunk baby.
It finally occurred to me a few days ago that maybe I should take a little nap sometime midday. To take the edge off. To find some balance. To bridge the gap between night and day.
Unsolicited advice is criticism.

“As always, Valley provides an atmosphere of safety to those of us have stories to tell. In my years of writing with her, I have learned to love and forgive myself, the messes I have made and the love I receive with an open heart. Thank you, Valley, who shares herself and teaches us how to be.” —Chaya

This is me at 85, Valley; only I fall asleep around 3:00 a.m. My hour of feeling as if I'm dying is around 8-9 p.m. I too snack into my cleavage. What to dp! Recalibrate my body schedule & have a chat with my internist. Meanwhile will enjoy thinking if you walking the dogs, and sipping coffee on your porch.
Your writing and your morning routine are inspiring!
