MORE: A Scrapbook of Obsession
Introducing the first installment: The JUNGLE: My Teen Years
Hey you!
Thanks so much for being here. I love you.
Since early January I’ve been at work on a project called More: A Scrapbook of Obsession.
I chose this title because for about five minutes 55 years ago, I was a professional scrapbooker!!! Yes, that’s actually true! I’ve always been fascinated by the way photographs that preserve the heart and soul of certain times and places, particular people and feelings I so dearly want to hold onto. Even though I identify as a writer I find the saying, a picture is worth a thousand words, so often true. Gathering the photos for this project has brought me much revery and delight, and I hope you enjoy them, too. <3
I was/am/and probably always will be an addict. An addict wanting MORE. More food, love, sex, TV, nicotine, credit cards, drugs, alcohol, co-dependently enmeshed BFFs, Facebook, approval, chaos, adrenaline, serenity, spirituality, certificates, and the blissful ecstasy that will turn me into an enlightened guru.
I’ve been on a recovery-centered spiritual path for 25 years and I’m sober or abstinent from most of these addictions most of the time.
However chances are good I’ll always be human, and there will always be something of which I want more.
In this project, I combine photos, poetry, and prose to play with, remember, question, honor and explore the idea of who I was back then, what I was along the way, and who I am now.
Do you want more, too?
TELL ME ALL ABOUT IT.
Love,
Valley
