Goddess Box
Though I don’t know yet where I’m going, each step forward has been met by the earth or the sky, a net, a catapult, or a goddess waiting to catch my fall.
For Christmas, my girlfriend gave me a gorgeous candle in a specially decoupaged box which I have stuffed with scribbled scraps of paper naming everything I can’t control, am trying to find the courage to change, or just can’t fucking figure out. Grief, taxes, my lost passport, divorce, where I’m going or how to get there. My Goddess Box.
Last week, I dreamed I was on a voyage north from Canada to Iceland, taking a complex series of buses and trains never knowing which I was supposed to take next, or when.
I kept losing all of my stuff, my backpack, a guitar, my phone. I didn’t know where I was going, and even though there were many calls for me to return there was no way for me to return them.
It was what my friend Sarah would call an earthworm dream, the meaning so obvious even an earthworm could interpret it. The dream wasn’t the crazy part though, the text I got that afternoon from my old sponsor was.
Hi Valley! she texted. I had a dream about you last night that you were in a train station trying to figure out if you wanted to take a train and what kind of train you wanted to take. You were very very emotional. Just checking to see if you’re okay.
OMG! I texted back. That’s INSANE. Are you by chance available to talk? Because I was indeed very emotional and I don’t know where I’m going, and I haven’t been sure who to call. Guess who has a sponsor again after 9 months of free fall? This girl!
Though I don’t know yet where I’m going, each step forward has been met by the earth or the sky, a net, a catapult, or a goddess waiting to catch my fall.
This has been a year of illumination. A fireplace when the heat went out at the river house, and a rainbow bonfire with the pagans. In addition to the gorgeous candle in my Goddess Box, I received a candle making kit from my girlfriend’s sister-in-law and 3 precious votives from my son. Though the first candle I made was hideous, I adore the candles friends and I made on NYE and the rainbow candle I made I made in a self-healing ceremony— mycrowning jewel.
